Noni Choi (b. Seoul, Korea) is a botanical artist and illustrator. Trained in ceramic arts in Seoul. Noni worked as an art teacher in Korea until 2009. Since then Noni has traveled extensively in Australia, New Zealand, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France and Switzerland developing her art practice in varied locations.
Noni’s influences include the Czech Art Nouveau painter Alfons Mucha, French Impressionist Renoir and pre raphaelite artists. Studies have included a Diploma from the Society of Botanical Artists in London, a range of Artist Residencies and Exhibitions. Noni’s artwork has been commissioned for designs for a Korean Cosmetics company and for illustrations for a children’s story released as a book app. As well as private commissions for individual pieces including a series of botanical paintings to illustrate a book of poetry.
Traveling internationally as a student and volunteer. Noni has continued to develop her art practice, increasingly focusing on drawing and painting with inspiration coming from the elegance of the natural world. Flowers are a rich source of inspiration in Noni’s art. Noni’s work captures the precision of nature creating meditative studies of the beauty of the natural world she sees around her. Scotland has become a particular source of inspiration with Noni describing Edinburgh’s Botanical gardens as “the most beautiful gardens I have seen” and return visits building a growing love for the Scottish landscape.
